The French southeastern area appears to be a spacious territory providing a wide range of landscapes. This article gives you 5 good reasons to go on holiday in Drôme.

    Architectural heritage

The Drôme is especially known for its architectural heritage. In Hauterives, stands the stunning Palais Idéal du facteur Cheval. The latter has been classified in 1969 as a Historic Monument. Ferdinand Cheval, a French postman, spent thirty-three years constructing Le Palais Idéal. It appears to be an exciting jewel of art. Apart from receiving visitors, the palace also hosts concerts in the summer season. You can spend some hours looking at the things built at the level of the numerous facades. The town as well as the surrounding countryside are also worth visiting.

Another building that needs to be visited in the Drôme is The Château de Grignan. The latter proves to be the biggest Renaissance Palace within the southeastern part of France. From the terraces, the view looks amazing along with a panorama of 360 degrees. The Château de Grignan hosts concerts in the summer as well as numerous cultural events. Fortified castle built in the 11th century, that architectural gem has been rebuilt by Marie Fontaine in the 20th century and has been leading, since 1979, acquisitions projects as well as ambitious renovation.

A third building which is worth visiting in The Drôme is The Château of Suze-la-Rousse. It is a sparkling medieval stronghold which was in the past an exciting military fortress that belonged to the co-Princes d’Orange.

    Local gastronomy

The Drôme is a place in which you’ll have the opportunity to taste exceptional meals. Local olives, olive oil and tapenade are available at Vignolis. The whole local bounty of Vignolis is stocked up in a museum and a boutique.

Another center providing with good local gastronomy in the Drôme is Vinaigrerie la Para. Its hand-crafted vinegars are perfumed with the area’s aromatic plants and exhale such a good flavour.

Let’s not forget Maison de la Truffe et du Tricastin. It takes you across the cultivation and history of the black diamond. Within this building located in the biggest truffle-producing area in France, you are sure to meet experts.

    Artisanal products

In the Drôme, you can view the distillation process at Distillerie Bleu Provence. You can also visit a museum or try a local snack at the level of the café. In the wonderful boutique of the distillery, you’ll find soaps, perfumes, skincare, local essential oils and much more.

At La Scourtinerie de Nyons, there is a boutique, factory and museum rolled into one. Here is the very last place on French soil which keeps weaving the original filters of coconut-fibre for olive oil and wine.

Have you ever heard about Durance? It’s a fabrication shop in which you can buy exceptional cosmetic products such as skincare, home fragrances, scented candles as well as perfumes.

    Outdoor activities

If you love to enjoy good time outside, you must find a way of reaching Acro Pôle Aventure and Bureau des Guides des Baronnies when visiting the Drôme. There, you’ll take advantage of numerous activities from rock-climbing, adventure hiking, canyoning and tree courses.

Les Attelages provides with horse-and-carriage rides via sumptuous terrains. At the Ecole de Parapente, you’ll be taken up within a paraglider from one of its eight locations.
