    Gastronomic Specialties in Valence, France

Everybody knows France as the country of love, light, and good food. Well, Valence is one of the proudest examples of exceptional cuisine and gastronomic specialities. If you are a foodie and enjoy beautiful meals, you won’t be disappointed in your stay. Explore the gourmet marvels Valence has to offer as you discover the town’s restaurants, shops, and markets where rare delicacies await you.

    Suisse

A Suisse is an orange blossom water biscuit that is crumbly, crunchy, and fluffy all at once. This sweet treat is the perfect accompaniment for a nice cup of tea. Suisse is something of a symbol in Valence. According to the legend, a baker from Valence created it in honour of the Pontifical Swiss Guard who had come to bear the remains of Pope Pius VI when he died in Valence in 1799.

    Pogne

Pogne is a traditional brioche in the shape of a crown which also tastes of orange blossom water. This sweet bread makes for a wonderful breakfast and pairs incredibly well with a cup of steaming hot chocolate!

    Apricots

Valence apricots are beautiful, flavour-bursting little gems grown with love by the talented producers and farmers of the Valence countryside. Did you know that the Drôme region is the largest organic apricot-producing region in France?

    Chocolate

The city of Valence is home to countless delicious, high-quality chocolate specialities that you can discover throughout the town, in its many chocolateries.

    Pangée

Pangée is a honey, apricot, and almond-flavoured speciality. This delicious treat which makes for an unforgettable snack can be found in only some of Valence’s bakeries. If you want to get your hands on one, you will need to head to either the Chabeuil or the Baume Cornillane boulangerie.

    Dry Sausage

No proper French apéritif is complete without it. Dry sausage, or saucisson, is one of the biggest specialities from the Valence area. Slowly dried under the sun that kisses the Col des Limouches, Valence saucisson is a frequent winner of culinary competitions.

    Ravioles

And last, but certainly not least, don’t leave Valence without having tasted the beautiful Ravioles de Valence. You might think it’s just ravioli, but we can assure you it’s not! A raviole is a much finer square of pasta dough which contains cheese and parsley. This is an absolute must try if you are visiting the Drôme region!

There you have it. Next time you visit the markets in Valence, you’ll know exactly what to buy for a wonderful gourmet experience!
